theresa weber
Theresa Weber currently lives and works in Berlin.
Through material collage, textile installation and collaborative performance, the artist seeks to question existing power hierarchies and fixed categorizations. From her perspective as an artist with Jamaican, German and Greek background, her practice often refers to Caribbean discourse, ancient mythologies and historical research. Represented through contemporary body-marks and archival techniques, her practice exemplifies the constant transformation within every tradition. On the dynamic field between transparency and opacity, Weber’s practice creates space for strength and resilience, through nuance and fragility.
Theresa Weber studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Katharina Grosse and Ellen Gallagher. After graduating there in 2021, she finished a Masters program in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art London in 2023. She won several awards and scholarships and has been showing work internationally in various contexts. This year her work has been on platform at Perrotin Paris, Nicoletti Gallery London, Gropius Bau Berlin, and Suermondt- Ludwig Museum Aachen, among others. Her first museum solo took place at Kunstmuseum Bochum, and she was invited for a Tate Collective commission in 2024. She was part of the New Contemporaries UK in 2022, followed by her first public commission for Somerset House London in 2023. Her first institutional solo book place at Dortmunder Kunstverein in 2021.
