miranda makaroff

Miranda Makaroff is a multidisciplinary artist who moves between painting, textile, sculpture, performance, and installation. Her work is a celebration of femininity, women's pleasures, and inner worlds. With vibrant colors and fluid brushstrokes, she creates playful yet profound surreal-like scenes that blend fantasy and reality.

At the heart of her practice is a desire to break free from social norms, giving life to hidden thoughts, desires, and emotions. Her characters often float between dream and reality, reflecting both joy and the darker corners of the mind. Makaroff uses art to confront inner demons and express the complexity of being human; a form of therapy in a sense. Her paintings hold a mirror to her inner soul and force the artist to leave the comfort zone in order to discover her true self through her work.

Nature plays an important role in her universe—plants, animals, and human figures merge together, reminding us of our connection to the world around us. Her work invites us to let go of fear, embrace pleasure, and imagine a world without repression or censorship.

Makaroff’s oeuvre is an ode to everyday pleasures and the connection to one's true identity, away from ego, societal discourses, and rigid ideas of propriety. In her work, there are no fixed rules. She moves across various media and experiments with a wide range of materials from scratch, allowing naivety to guide the expression of her soul’s impressions of reality. By distancing herself from the rational mind and conventional forms, she connects with the long tradition of surrealism in figurative painting, creating a world where freedom, imagination, and beauty coexist without boundaries.
