ARALE REARTES

Arale Reartes is a photographer and visual artist based in Barcelona. Her work is centered on self-portraiture, where she explores identity, representation and authorship through her intimate and precise visual language that is at the same time quietly subversive.

Reartes employs photography as a place for building as well as a tool for observation in both personal and commissioned projects. Her work frequently challenges the hierarchies ingrained in the creation of images, particularly those pertaining to authorship, the feminine body, and the place of women in visual culture.

In addition to working with global magazines and companies like Vogue, Elle, Cap74024, Rimowa, Massimo Dutti, and Armani, she has established an own practice. Additionally, her work has been featured in exhibitions and projects in Barcelona and overseas, including Dreams & Fears at PHotoESPAÑA, Dissociation/Reconciliation in Barcelona, and a residency at Studio Kura in Fukuoka.

Arale lives between Barcelona and Paris, where her practice continues to expand across personal, editorial and artistic contexts. Her love for photography made her also teach this discipline at FD Escola de Fotografia in Barcelona where her work has been highlighted on her approach to self-representation and visual authorship.
