antonela aiassa
Antonela Aiassa (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1988) is a contemporary sculptor and painter whose practice is profoundly connected to nature, both as a source of material and as a place where she gathers ideas for the formal appearance of her pieces. Living and working between Barcelona and Buenos Aires, she explores concepts of transformation, identity, and belonging through organic forms and elemental substances. Her work develops through an intuitive dialogue with the materials, allowing their intrinsic qualities to guide the outcome of each piece.
Aiassa’s sculptures, primarily made from chamotte clay, are shaped through processes in which water, air, and earth play an essential role. Rather than resisting these natural forces, she incorporates them, highlighting a tension between human intention and the independent behavior of the environment. In her paintings, made on raw, unprimed cotton, she uses natural pigments that carry memory and geological presence, reinforcing her interest in materials that contain their own stories.
Her language moves in a constant balance between control and openness, between craft and natural influence. By combining traditional techniques with experimental gestures, she creates works that hold both intimate resonance and collective meaning. Aiassa’s practice invites reflection on the relationship between matter, time, and transformation, creating a space where the natural world and human experience quietly meet.
