antonela aiassa

Antonela Aiassa (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1988) is a contemporary sculptor and painter whose work is deeply rooted in nature, both as a source of material and as an active force in the creative process. Living and working between Barcelona and Buenos Aires, she explores themes of transformation, identity, and belonging through organic forms and natural elements. Her practice is guided by an intuitive dialogue with the materials she uses, allowing their inherent properties to shape the final outcome of each piece.

Aiassa’s sculptures, primarily made from chamote clay, undergo a process in which natural forces—water, air, and earth—play an essential role in defining their textures and forms. By embracing these interactions, she highlights the tension between human intention and nature’s autonomy. Her paintings, created on raw, unprimed cotton, are infused with natural pigments, reinforcing her commitment to working with elements that hold memory and history within them.

Her work exists in constant dialogue between control and surrender, craftsmanship and organic intervention. By integrating traditional techniques with experimental processes, she creates pieces that embody both personal narratives and collective histories. Through her art, Aiassa invites the viewer to reflect on the intimate relationship between material, time, and transformation, forging a connection between the natural world and human experience.
